Chris Geissler calls on opponent to step out of the race

By Chris Geissler, on Jan 21, 2010

WAUCONDA - Republican candidate for the eighth congressional district Chris Geissler today responded to the news of a lawsuit filed against his primary opponent for failure to pay staff and vendors for services rendered. Keith Liscio, former campaign manager for Geissler's opponent Joe Walsh, filed suit today after not having received the agreed upon payment of $20,000 for his services. Liscio left the campaign in December after repeated attempts to get Walsh to meet his obligation.

"The suit filed today against Mr. Walsh is indicative of his inability to represent the eighth district in Congress," Geissler said. "My opponent is running on a platform of fiscal responsibility and yet has failed to manage his own campaign with the integrity he has touted to have throughout this race."

Citing Walsh's previous losses in his bids for Congress and the State House in 1996 and 1998 respectively, Geissler questions Walsh's ability to beat incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean.

"With all due respect to Mr. Walsh, he has run for office against incumbent Democrats before and lost by wide margins," Geissler said. "Now that the integrity of his campaign is in question, he has little chance of beating our Congresswoman in November. We need a candidate who is committed to the district by bringing jobs back to Illinois and putting people back to work, just as my policy platform will do."

"Our families and our lives are at stake, and we can't afford to bet our futures on a candidate who doesn't practice what he preaches and has flip-flopped on key issues like gay rights, abortion and gun rights. For the sake of the families of this district, I'm calling on Mr. Walsh to remove himself from this race, and let the voters choose a principled candidate to represent them in Congress," Geissler said. "We welcome Mr. Walsh's supporters, including Mr. Liscio, to join our cause because beating Melissa Bean will take a unified effort, a tenacious candidate and a resonating message on jobs and the economy. We're ready to take the fight to Washington, and we want the people of this district to lead the charge."
